Who is Spek?
Amy is a conservation professional, tinkerer and data visualization specialist leveraging mapping, design, and stakeholder engagement to create intuitive decision-support tools.
Spek was the answer to Amy’s desire to pursue creative problem solving across disciplines.
Amy’s background in Civil & Environmental Engineering, and upbringing on a cattle ranch afford her a hands-on, learn by doing approach to all things. She loves to explore solutions with prototypes, learn new skills and media, and has an unrelenting curiosity. Think you have a challenge that can stump her? Drop her a line.
She is a competitive trail runner, accomplished skier, and loves to teach her friends swing dancing and salsa. She’s fluent in Spanish and she works part-time as a horse trainer near her home of Jackson, WY.
Process
The design framework employed at Spek Designs is adapted from Amy’s experience with the Stanford d.school (Design School) where she spent nearly two years embedded in the Design Lab developing off-grid agricultural tools. The process follows six phases - often repeated or pursued in a different order - to unearth the root problem and design the most elegant solution. This framework is useful across disciplines, from hardware, to services, to creating experiences.
